Democratic Representative Seth Moulton supports Graham Platner in tattoo controversy connected to Nazis

Graham Platner's removed Reddit post making fun of injured soldier causes anger

Massachusetts Democratic Representative Seth Moulton expressed that he does not believe Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner’s Nazi-related tattoos should disqualify him from running, which stands in contrast to the views of his fellow Massachusetts Representative, Jake Auchincloss. Speaking on CNN, Moulton commented, “Yes, Graham obviously made a mistake, but he accepted responsibility for it, and I don’t think that ought to disqualify him.”

Moulton continued by pointing out that what truly disqualifies a candidate might be the current senator from Maine, who he believes is serving more as a puppet for Donald Trump rather than the interests of the American people or Maine voters. He emphasized that ultimately, it is up to the voters in Maine to make that choice. However, he seemed to hint that he views Susan Collins, the incumbent senator, as the real issue in the race.

In contrast, Auchincloss previously stated on the same CNN program that he feels Platner’s tattoos and past comments were “personally disqualifying.” He mentioned that he understands the gravity of the situation regarding Platner’s tattoo but hopes that Maine voters might align more with his viewpoint. Auchincloss suggested that relying on Platner’s Democratic affiliation may not be a winning strategy for a lasting majority in the broader political landscape.

Platner, who is vying for the Senate seat, has faced significant scrutiny over his controversial tattoo, which has been part of his identity for many years. Compounding the issue are past offensive comments made by him on Reddit, some of which target women and military personnel.

Auchincloss, who was among the few Democrats to voice his concerns about Platner, has softened his stance, clarifying that he would not support Platner’s likely opponent, Republican Senator Collins. He criticized Collins, calling her a “rubber stamp for the worst administration in history,” while noting that he supports Democrats reclaiming control of Congress.

Despite the controversies surrounding him, Moulton hasn’t officially endorsed Platner yet. Meanwhile, Platner’s past has recently resurfaced, leading to further scrutiny and claims that might affect his candidacy.
