Drake Maye Responds to Weight Inquiry

During a press conference on Wednesday, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye found himself taken aback by a question regarding his weight.

“That’s a bit of an awkward question, but are we really saying that having two C’s indicates being overweight? Is that, like, a trendy thing to say?” WBZ reporter Dan Roche asked. May seemed confused and asked him to repeat it.

The question lingered in the air. “Should having two C’s make me weighty? Or…?” Roche pressed on.

May lowered his head and chuckled, explaining, “It’s more of a ‘pause’ situation,” as laughter erupted from other reporters. “I wouldn’t put it that way.” He seemed to take the exchange in stride, displaying a light-hearted demeanor.

At 23 years old, Maye appears to have gained some muscle over the offseason after the Patriots faced a Super Bowl defeat against the Seahawks in February.

When discussing his conditioning, May emphasized the necessity of being fit as he prepares for his third season in the league. “It’s a long season, so I try to take time off and then come back ready for the start,” he explained. “Throughout the season, you often lose muscle and weight, so maintaining that is crucial.”

Selected as the No. 3 overall pick by the Patriots in 2024, Maye guided the team to an impressive 14-3 record last season under the coaching of Mike Vrabel.

Despite personal struggles with injuries during playoffs, including being sacked six times in the Super Bowl loss, Maye played a vital role in turning the team’s fortunes around from last place in the AFC East just a year prior.
