Trump Endorses Armenian Prime Minister Ahead of Elections
President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, endorsing him as the country braces for upcoming elections.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that Pashinyan shares his vision of “PEACE and PROSPERITY” for the region.
“Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, of Armenia, a great friend and Leader, is making his Country strong, wealthy, and secure!” he wrote. “Nikol completely shares my vision of PEACE and PROSPERITY for Armenia and the entire South Caucasus region,” he added.
The Armenian Prime Minister is selected by the parliamentary majority and must be approved by the president, as noted by the European Committee of the Regions. The elections are scheduled for June 7, according to the OSCE.
Trump also highlighted recent agreements between U.S. and Armenian representatives as a key factor in his endorsement.
“For these reasons, Nikol has my COMPLETE and TOTAL Endorsement for Re-Election on June 7, 2026. With Nikol’s help, we will bring the United States, Armenia, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia to greater heights than ever before,” he stated. “Make (Armenia) Great Again.”
On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a memorandum of understanding regarding critical minerals, along with a strategic partnership charter, as per a press release from the State Department. They also introduced “a bilateral framework on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).”
“The United States and Armenia are now one step closer to establishing unimpeded, multimodal transit connectivity within the region while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia,” according to the department.
The agreement also outlines the creation of the TRIPP Development Company, described as a joint venture focused on trade, transport, and economic development in the region.
“The United States remains committed to expanding global trade, peace stability, and prosperity in the region,” the department reaffirmed.
During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rubio commented on the new agreements.
“We are seeing the emergence of a great new relationship with Armenia that really had grown stagnant for a long period of time,” Rubio noted.
In his social media commentary, Trump praised TRIPP and its potential impact.
“Soon, the United States and Armenia will break ground together on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, which will transform the South Caucasus, and help our wonderful American Energy Companies gain access from Central Asia all the way to the United States,” the president claimed.
