Claude Lemieux's influence on the NHL continues in his new role as an agent.

Claude Lemieux’s legacy continues to resonate in the hockey community.

The former NHL player, who reportedly took his own life at the age of 60, had a significant presence in sports even after his retirement as a player agent in 2009.

Known for his role as an instigator and a clutch performer, Lemieux represented some of the biggest names today, including Timo Meier of the Devils and Frederik Andersen from the Hurricanes.

“Rest in Peace, Pepi,” Meier wrote on his Instagram, referring to the nickname Lemieux earned in his rookie season with the Montreal Canadiens in 1983, which is a playful nod to the cartoon character Pepe Le Pew.

“He left us too soon.”

His death, found by one of his sons in their family furniture store in Florida, came as a shock, especially since just three days earlier he had been celebrated by the Canadiens as a torch bearer before an important playoff game against the Hurricanes.

Andersen, who was slated to be the starting goalie that evening, received a message from Lemieux who jokingly mentioned he was there to support the home crowd at the Bell Center.

Andersen remarked, “He’s like family,” adding that it was a proud moment for the whole Lemieux family to see him honored.

As they pursue their respective goals—Andersen’s quest for the Stanley Cup and Meier’s run in the IIHF World Championship with Switzerland—there’s a sense of heaviness in the air.

Lemieux, a four-time Stanley Cup winner, was leading 4-Sport Hockey North American Hockey Operations. His roster included players like Moritz Seider of the Red Wings and Hampus Lindholm of the Bruins, with current contracts adding up to around $355 million.

“Claude was more than just part of our 4sports family,” the agency shared. “He was an extraordinary individual, a dependable friend, an inspiring leader, and an outstanding agent whose kindness and generosity touched many lives. His influence not only shaped our company but left a profound effect on those around him.”

The memories, laughter, and inspiration he provided will remain with us always.
