President Donald Trump is currently in the Situation Room deliberating a final decision on Iran, as he waits for authorization to prolong a 60-day interim ceasefire.
In an early Friday morning post on Truth Social, Trump laid out certain conditions for Iran and announced a forthcoming status conference.
Key points he emphasized include that Iran should never possess nuclear weapons, the need for unimpeded passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran’s responsibility to clear any mines in the strait and surrender enriched materials, referred to as “nuclear dust.”
Iran must commit to never acquiring nuclear weapons or bombs. The Strait of Hormuz should be opened immediately, allowing unrestricted shipping in both directions without tolls. Any surface mines need to be decommissioned; we’ve already cleared many through detonation using our advanced underwater minesweepers. Iran is expected to remove or detonate any remaining mines promptly, though probably not in large quantities! Vessels currently impeded by our extensive naval blockade are set to resume operations and ‘return home.’ Please send greetings to your spouses, parents, and families from me, your favorite President. This enriched substance, often called “nuclear dust,” is buried beneath mountains that were almost leveled due to our B2 bombers’ attack about 11 months ago, and it will be excavated and eliminated by the United States—with China also involved—working closely with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. No financial transactions will occur until further notice.
Trump also noted that some agreements have been reached on less significant issues.
“There are other matters, which are considerably less important, that have also been settled. I will now convene in the Situation Room to finalize my decision,” he stated.
On Thursday, reports indicated that extending the interim ceasefire negotiated by U.S. and Iranian representatives would hinge on Trump’s approval. This agreement provides both parties a 60-day timeframe to concentrate on discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
