Spurs Force Game 7 Against Thunder; SGA Struggles

Victor Wembanyama had a standout performance, scoring 28 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 118-91 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Jason McIntyre noted that Wembanyama showed up when it mattered most and posed the question of whether he could carry this momentum into Game 7. He also highlighted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s difficulties and wondered if these issues might cost the Thunder the series.

In a notable setback, the Thunder will be without guard Jaylen Williams for the pivotal Game 7, sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Reports indicate he injured his left hamstring during Game 2, which the Thunder won. After missing three games, he returned for Game 6 but managed only 10 minutes off the bench against the Spurs.

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault acknowledged Williams wasn’t at full strength. “Obviously, he’s not 100 percent,” he said.

Daigneault commended Williams for pushing through the injury, stating, “He didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know what to expect. We put him in a limited role to see what he could contribute. He’s an All-Star, an All-NBA player, but he hasn’t fully returned yet.” If it were the regular season, the coach mentioned he would usually have opted for a different approach, but Williams was eager to help his team however he could.

Williams did not face the media after Game 6. His previous offseason included surgery for a wrist injury, which limited his participation, playing in just 33 regular season games before this year’s playoffs.

The winner of Saturday’s Game 7 will move on to the NBA Finals to take on the New York Knicks, who recently ended a long playoff drought by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
