Reflecting on Immigration and Assimilation in America

Immigration remains a significant topic influencing many aspects of American society—not just in terms of border security.

While there’s been a noticeable drop in border crossings, an important question lingers: Are immigrants truly becoming part of American civic life? In many instances, it appears they are not.

Kevin Roberts, Chairman of the Heritage Foundation, shared his thoughts with Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey. He emphasized the necessity to genuinely embrace the concept of assimilation, suggesting that becoming American should extend beyond merely obtaining citizenship.

“To foster a pro-immigration atmosphere, we should establish laws that encourage immigrants to assimilate,” he remarked.

Roberts expressed that many Americans feel a strong desire to reclaim their homeland and believes that, in modern times, Donald Trump best symbolizes that sentiment.

Stuckey, identifying as a “suburban mom,” voiced her agreement. “I see how these issues shape my community. It goes beyond illegal immigration, and I’m optimistic that discussions are leaning positively to the right,” she stated, though she admitted uncertainty about the solutions.

She continued, “People often argue that illegal immigration is the primary concern, but it seems like even lawful immigration isn’t prioritizing the interests of America.” When people witness their neighborhoods changing and see once-familiar churches repurposed, it creates a sense of discomfort, she believes. “It’s a tricky thing to articulate, but there’s a strange feeling about it,” she added.

Roberts responded candidly, asserting that the foundational principles of the U.S. have their roots in cultures from Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, London, and Philadelphia. “We are fundamentally a nation of both Judaism and Christianity,” he explained. While he welcomes immigrants from diverse backgrounds, he cautioned that there can be limits on the numbers coming from incompatible cultures.
