Military Action Against Drug Traffickers
The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) has once again engaged in military action, targeting a vessel suspected of drug smuggling in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. This operation resulted in the deaths of three individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking activities.
On Friday, SOUTHCOM shared unclassified video footage showing the attack, which was ordered by Gen. Francis L. Donovan. He directed Joint Task Force Southern Spear to carry out “lethal kinetic attacks against vessels operated by designated terrorist organizations.”
A brief video clip depicted the ship amidst the deep blue waters before flames and smoke were seen erupting from it.
“Intelligence reports confirm that this vessel was navigating known drug trafficking routes and actively engaged in drug-related operations. During this action, three male narco-terrorists were neutralized,” the command stated. “There were no casualties among U.S. military personnel. SOUTHCOM remains committed to applying systemic pressure on the cartels.”
Since September, about 200 individuals have reportedly lost their lives on approximately 60 boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific as part of ongoing military efforts against drug traffickers aiming to smuggle substances into the U.S.
Earlier this week, two additional attacks in the eastern Pacific were reported, one on Tuesday and another on Wednesday. The Tuesday incident resulted in one fatality, while two individuals were killed in the Wednesday operation.
