CENTCOM rejects Iran's assertion that it downed a U.S. aircraft

U.S. Central Command Denies Reports of Downed Military Plane

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has dismissed allegations from Iranian state television claiming that Iranian forces successfully shot down a U.S. military aircraft.

On Thursday, CENTCOM addressed the situation on X, stating, “Claim: Iranian state television claimed that Iranian military shot down a U.S. military plane near Bushehr. False.” They clarified, “The truth: No U.S. military aircraft were shot down. All U.S. air assets are accounted for.”

Reports from Iranian state television suggested that a U.S. military plane was destroyed in Bushehr’s Jam province, as cited by Jammu Governor Masoud Tangestani.

Additionally, the Tasnim News Agency, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), indicated that explosions were heard near the Strait of Hormuz and Bandar Abbas on Thursday night. However, these were later corrected to be warning shots fired at vessels in the strait.

This incident occurs during a tenuous ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran. Negotiations are underway for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at reducing the ongoing tensions.

As reported by Axios, the latest draft of the MOU seeks to extend the ceasefire partially, ensure unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and initiate discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. Nevertheless, President Donald Trump has not yet granted approval for this plan.
