The combination of Ed Orgeron and Lane Kiffin is already benefiting the LSU Tigers during an important recruiting weekend.

Ed Orgeron comes back to LSU, teaming up with Lane Kiffin's unpredictable group on the Bayou

LSU’s Recruiting Surge with Orgeron

I tried to give a heads up to everyone about what was brewing at LSU. A week and a half ago, when they brought former head coach Ed Orgeron on board with new coach Lane Kiffin, I mentioned how this move looked to tackle some weaknesses from the past coaching staff. Personally, I was sure it would enhance their recruiting strategy moving forward.

What I didn’t foresee, though, was how quickly Orgeron would dive into action in Baton Rouge.

Shortly after joining LSU’s coaching staff, Orgeron managed to secure both an in-person and an official visit from Jalen Brewster, the nation’s top recruit and a five-star defensive tackle.

The race for Brewster appeared to be primarily between Texas Tech and the Florida Gators, both local teams. But now, in under two weeks, Orgeron has not only stepped into Brewster’s shoes; he seems to have propelled the Tigers to the forefront in his recruitment.

This past weekend, videos surfaced showcasing Brewster enjoying his time with Ed O during his official visit, and honestly, Texas Tech fans might prefer to skip those clips. It kind of feels like watching someone’s partner dance with a bodybuilder on a getaway (not that I have personal experience with that).

But wait, Texas Tech isn’t the only Texas school losing commits to LSU. We talked about Easton Royal, a five-star wide receiver currently committed to Texas, making the trek to LSU for another official visit this weekend. Royal’s from New Orleans, so he’s definitely someone the Longhorns are concerned about. Bringing Orgeron into the mix raises the chances of him flipping to LSU.

Having two of the nation’s top recruits visiting together is a big deal for any program. If LSU manages to land both, they will be on track for an outstanding class of 2027.

Currently, the Tigers have five commits, and they’re all exceptional prospects, including two others who also boast five-star rankings.

Adding Brewster and Royal would allow Kiffin and his team to personalize the rest of their recruiting strategy while aiming for a top-five finish on each recruiting list.

This change is precisely what other SEC teams were wary of when Kiffin took the helm at LSU, and it’s exactly what I envisioned when he enlisted Orgeron’s help.

People might have thought I was exaggerating when I said Orgeron’s hiring positioned LSU as the most formidable recruiting powerhouse in the country. But I’m beginning to feel a bit prophetic, which is, admittedly, one of those things I wish I was wrong about.
