Odell Beckham Jr.’s Possible Return to the Giants
Odell Beckham Jr. has made it clear that he “didn’t want to leave” the New York Giants, and there’s a chance he could find his way back to the team soon.
On April 20, the Giants had Beckham participate in their training sessions, although they couldn’t reach a contract. Still, the possibility of his return to New York remains open.
After Gunner Olszewski, a receiver and kick returner, sustained a torn right Achilles tendon recently, Beckham attended a charity softball game hosted by Brian Burns over the weekend, suggesting he’s eager to reconnect with the Giants.
“This is a place I never wanted to leave,” he shared during an interview, noting how much he feels connected to the fans in those big blue jerseys. “I just hope for the best.”
Last season, Beckham was sidelined from the NFL due to a six-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. Reflecting on his time away, he mentioned, “Just being able to spend that time away made me realize some things. There are some things I have unfinished business.”
When talking about his future contributions, Beckham commented, “I think we’ll see soon.” At 33, he’s set to play the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, under the guidance of new Giants coach John Harbaugh, who has expressed admiration for him.
However, Beckham hasn’t had the smoothest ride lately. Injuries have plagued him over recent seasons, with only one occurrence of exceeding 550 receiving yards since 2020.
It seems the Giants’ interest in Beckham might be on the decline following unsuccessful contract negotiations after his workouts. Still, with Olszewski’s injury, alongside Malik Nabors’ ACL recovery and Darius Slayton’s sports hernia surgery, the Giants are looking to add another receiver. Reports indicate Beckham may participate in practice Monday, presenting him with a 50-50 shot at signing with the team.
Beckham first captured the spotlight at MetLife Stadium from 2014 to 2018 after being drafted 12th overall in the NFL Draft. Since his trade to the Cleveland Browns before the 2019 season, however, he has struggled to regain that earlier form.
