Over the weekend in San Diego, a pregnant teenager was reportedly shot and killed by her boyfriend during a family vacation.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, where they discovered a 17-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim, who was about 32 weeks pregnant and visiting from Arizona, was taken to a local hospital. Medical staff performed an emergency C-section to try to save her baby.
While the newborn is currently in critical condition, the mother did not survive the incident.
The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Trevon Williams, who allegedly traveled separately from Arizona to meet the victim at a short-term rental in Bay Park, where she was staying with her family.
According to the police, Williams is believed to have shot his pregnant girlfriend before fleeing into nearby ravines.
Officers located him around 3 a.m. with a semi-automatic handgun. He was taken into custody without any trouble.
Williams now faces murder charges and has been booked into the San Diego County Jail.
The exact motive behind the shooting is still unclear, and authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293.
