U.S. Military Intercepts Iranian Missiles Targeting Forces in Kuwait

On June 1, 2026, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American military forces intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles aimed at U.S. personnel stationed in Kuwait.

According to a CENTCOM update shared on social media, the attack, which took place late Sunday night, caused no injuries among American troops.

“Last night at 11 p.m. ET, U.S. forces successfully intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles targeting American forces based in Kuwait,” the announcement read.

In the latest developments, CENTCOM reported a series of preemptive “self-defense” strikes against Iranian positions, which included radar and control sites located on Goruk and Qeshm Island—strategically positioned near the Strait of Hormuz.

These strikes were said to be a direct response to “aggressive Iranian actions,” notably an incident where Iran shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was reportedly operating in international waters.

“U.S. fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters,” CENTCOM reported.

The command reassured that no American personnel were harmed during these operations.

Just the previous week, CENTCOM had noted that Kuwaiti forces intercepted another Iranian missile targeting their territory, which was labeled an “egregious ceasefire violation.” In addition, U.S. forces successfully intercepted five Iranian one-way attack drones and prevented the launch of a sixth drone.

However, in CENTCOM’s most recent statement, there was no mention of ending the ceasefire that has been in place since early April.

“U.S. Central Command remains vigilant and will continue to protect our forces from Iranian aggression while supporting the ongoing ceasefire,” the command stated on Monday.

Negotiations for a permanent peace deal between the U.S. and Iran are ongoing, something President Donald Trump has often suggested aligns with Iran’s desires.

“Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us,” Trump shared on Truth Social amidst updates from CENTCOM.

The president also took time to criticize “political hacks,” arguing that their persistent criticism complicates the negotiation process.

“But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively ‘chirping’… Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end,” Trump concluded.
