Serena Williams to Compete at HSBC Championship

Serena Williams is making her return to professional tennis this summer, set to play doubles at the HSBC Championship.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday at the Queen’s Club in London and will continue until June 21st. This event is significant as it leads up to Wimbledon, scheduled for July.

The news about Williams’ participation was announced on social media, declaring, “Serena Williams is back and will be competing in doubles at the #HSBCChampionships!”

It’s been quite a while since she last played; her last appearance was after retiring at the 2022 US Open. Even though she reentered the doping testing pool last year, she had stated that she wasn’t actively looking to return. But now, all speculation was put to rest when it was confirmed she would compete in the HSBC Championship.

“We feel the Queen’s Club is the perfect place to begin our next chapter,” Williams shared in a news release. “This venue has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m thrilled to be competing again on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

As one of the most formidable players in tennis history, Williams holds an impressive record: 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. She hasn’t clinched a doubles title since 2016 but has won three Olympic doubles championships throughout her career.

Last year marked a historic return to Queen’s Club for women’s tennis, and now, seeing an icon like Williams back on the courts adds a thrilling layer for the tournament and its fans.
