A.J. Brown's trade is approaching as rumors about the Patriots intensify

AJ Brown Trade Talks Heat Up

AJ Brown is in the spotlight. As June 1 approaches, the Eagles’ wide receiver, who’s faced challenges during his time in Philadelphia, is reportedly a likely trade candidate. This is mainly because his contract is becoming more appealing to teams looking for fresh prospects.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter shared updates during a segment on 97.5 The Fanatic with hosts John Kincaid and Andrew Sarkunas, focusing on the ongoing trade discussions involving Brown and New England.

“Later today, I anticipate a call,” Schefter stated this morning. He mentioned that key figures from both the Eagles and the Patriots would meet to continue their previous discussions regarding the potential trade. “I think they’ll reconnect today and, well, probably finalize some things. Though, of course, anything can change. I don’t foresee any major shifts.”

He added that he expects Brown may indeed be traded to New England within the next day or so.

Brown, who recently tied the knot in an elegant California ceremony without any of his teammates present, is on track for a trade post-June 1. The financial aspects favor this move, as his cap savings become significant—this means a more trade-friendly contract starting at 4:01 p.m. ET. He had previously signed a sizable extension in 2024 that would have resulted in a hefty dead cap charge of $43 million had he been traded before June 1.

By waiting until now, his dead cap impact has lessened considerably, spreading over several seasons, which leaves him with a manageable $16.4 million for next season.

Earlier speculation had suggested that the Patriots were considering a trade involving Brown for a 2028 first-round pick, but the terms may evolve as the discussions advance.

Over the past two seasons, Brown has expressed a desire to leave Philadelphia, even making headlines with antics like reading self-help books on the sidelines, famously describing his situation there as a “show.”

If a trade goes through, the Eagles will restructure their receiving corps, highlighted by DeVonta Smith and first-round draft pick Makai Lemon.
