'Moonrise Kingdom' Actor Jared Gilman Sets His Account to Private Following Thoughts on Trump's Assassination

Jared Gilman, known for his performances in Wes Anderson’s films, faced backlash after making an inappropriate comment about assassinating President Donald Trump while discussing the White House.

In response to a post by Pop Crave featuring pictures of a UFC arena being built at the White House, Gilman joked, “The new funniest place for a sitting president to be assassinated will soon be gone.”

Trump has reportedly survived three assassination attempts within a short span.

After receiving significant criticism, Gilman deleted his comment and made his X account private. He expressed frustration that people interpreted his “joke” as a serious call for political violence.

“Apparently there’s only one thing you can’t joke about here, lest the biggest scum of Earth Loser poison you and post your profile picture like it’s his own epic work or something,” Gilman noted. When asked about the backlash, he remarked that it seemed to be from ” people who think I’m seriously calling for political violence.”

The actor aligns with other left-leaning individuals who have publicly expressed wishes for the harm of political opponents.

For instance, Rosie O’Donnell recently shared a post that implied a wish for Trump’s demise, suggesting he might “fall asleep in a meeting and never wake up.” This was accompanied by images that depicted Trump in a negative light.

While some on the left may not openly wish death upon their opponents, they do seem to celebrate violence against those they disagree with, as seen in the tragic assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk.

Despite this, many on the left appear unwilling to acknowledge that members of their own groups could perpetrate political violence, continuing to view themselves as victims.

Before Trump took office, O’Donnell made a dramatic exit from the U.S. to live in Ireland, where she frequently criticized the Trump administration via social media. Yet, paradoxically, she has returned to the U.S. on at least two occasions despite claiming she wouldn’t return during Trump’s presidency.
