Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is actively deporting many illegal immigrants, including gang members and individuals recently convicted of serious crimes like murder and child sex offenses.
“Since January 20, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security has expelled over 900,000 individuals from the U.S.,” said David Venturella, the Acting Director of ICE, during an interview.
“We are looking into all possible methods to boost our deportation numbers and are removing more criminals each day,” Venturella noted. “Some of the most dangerous individuals we removed in mid-May included convicted murderers and those guilty of child sexual assault, and we are committed to helping President Trump achieve his goal of making America safer.”
For example, Emilio López-Cruz from the Dominican Republic was among those deported last month. He has prior convictions for murder, attempted murder, multiple weapons violations, and illegal re-entry after being deported.
López-Cruz first came to the U.S. in 1993 with a business visitor visa. Following a felony conviction, he was deported in 2014. In 2024, he crossed the southern border again illegally and was later convicted for that.
ICE also deported Winston George Marson from Jamaica, who faced six counts of child sexual abuse. Marson arrived in the U.S. in 1970 on a visa, and had his status adjusted to a green card seven years later.
Rafael Bernardo Álvarez-Badilla was deported to Costa Rica after being convicted of crimes related to child indecency and possession of abusive materials. He had entered the U.S. in 2008 as the spouse of a citizen and received a green card afterward.
Additionally, Isaac Aquino Zarate from Mexico, an unidentified fugitive, was deported. He had previously been convicted of multiple counts of child sexual assault.
Hernandez Romero, originally from Germany, was also deported after being convicted of carrying an unregistered firearm, battery, and assault with a firearm. He initially crossed the southern border as a child and is known to be part of the 41st Street gang.
