Iowa’s Gubernatorial Race Heats Up as Zach Rahn Takes the Lead

In a significant development in Iowa politics, venture capitalist Zach Rahn has emerged victorious in a highly anticipated open gubernatorial primary. This race marks the first time in two decades that Iowa has seen a completely open contest for governor, following the decision of Republican incumbent Kim Reynolds to step down after nearly ten years.

As reported, the 35-year-old Rahn triumphed in a tight race involving five candidates, securing approximately 37.8% of the votes cast—amounting to 80,765 votes—with 99% of the total counted.

The competition within the Republican camp included figures like Randy Feenstra, Adam Steen, Brad Sherman, and Eddie Andrews, all of whom, interestingly, received between 36% and 37% of the votes. Notably, Feenstra, the current U.S. representative, garnered substantial backing from prominent party members, including Senator Joni Ernst and even Donald Trump.

In a show of support, Trump reaffirmed his endorsement just before the primary, highlighting Feenstra’s alignment with the MAGA agenda. During a rally, he proclaimed, “Randy has always been a MAGA!” and assured his followers, “I will never let you down.”

Feenstra’s campaign centered around an “America First” ideology, promising to enhance Iowa’s agricultural landscape while also committing to freeze local property taxes and lower health insurance costs. His narrative was aimed at preventing the state from adopting more liberal policies from neighboring areas.

Steen, who previously directed the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, echoed Trump’s hands-on approach in his campaign, stressing his desire to “actually get things done.” His slogan, “KEEP IOWA FREE,” resonated with a segment of the voter base.

Sherman, a former Iowa congressman, took an early jump into the race, focusing on individual liberties. He pledged to halt any future government shutdowns and protect landowners from potential seizures for private projects.

Andrews, meanwhile, is a sitting member of the Iowa House, presenting himself as a unifying candidate who emphasizes solutions for both rural and urban constituents.

Rahn, hailing from a long line of Iowa farmers, was supported by organizations like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again. His agenda targets issues such as rising cancer rates, and he’s pushing back against agricultural monopolies and foreign land ownership. He lives in Belle Plaine with his wife and their seven children, expressing a vision for Iowa to become “the most family-oriented state in America.”

On the Democratic side, the primary remains unopposed with Rob Sand stepping up as the only candidate.
