Nelly Korda Proudly Represents the U.S. Ahead of Women’s Open

Nelly Korda is filled with national pride as she prepares for the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club this week. Ranked as the number one player in the world, she arrived on Wednesday sporting a U.S. men’s soccer jersey, which she wore throughout her practice rounds.

The upcoming World Cup, set to start across North America later this month, seems to make this an ideal time for the 27-year-old to wear something a bit different on the course.

During her practice rounds, Korda shared her thoughts on choosing the U.S. Men’s National Team kit. She mentioned that it was partly in celebration of her selection for this year’s Solheim Cup team, and also expressed a patriotic sentiment. “It’s amazing. That’s why I’m wearing red, white, and blue today. It’s always an incredible honor to represent your country,” she stated. Korda expressed excitement for competing under the guidance of captain Anne in Amsterdam, recalling the fond memories she has from participating in the Solheim Cup.

“I can’t wait for more of those experiences,” she added.

Korda’s jersey featured the number 13, a significant number in U.S. women’s soccer, often associated with Alex Morgan. Interestingly, Korda has a personal connection to the number as well. “I chose 13 because it’s my favorite number,” she explained. “My parents are just 13 days apart. Plus, my second major win was my 13th overall. People often think that the number 13 is unlucky, but I’ve always felt differently about it.”

As a three-time major champion, Korda is determined to secure her first victory at this week’s U.S. Women’s Open in California. After a year without any wins in 2025, she bounced back in 2026 with three victories, including the Chevron Championship, which kicked off the major tournament season. Last year, she finished tied for second at the U.S. Women’s Open held in Erin Hills, Wisconsin.
