Arrest warrant issued for 49ers player Brandon Aiyuk in Northern California

A warrant has been issued for Brandon Aiyuk in Northern California.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office informed the California Post on Wednesday that the 49ers receiver faces a misdemeanor charge related to showcasing his speed.

This situation arose from a video Aiyuk uploaded to his YouTube channel back in December, as indicated by court documents reviewed by the outlet.

In the video, Aiyuk reached speeds exceeding 160 mph while driving a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing on a Santa Clara road, notably going past Levi’s Stadium at 164 mph.

Following some backlash, Aiyuk took to social media to express regret for his behavior and stated that “speeding will no longer accompany car content!”

Even with this public apology, the Santa Clara Police Department initiated an investigation into the video, which was later handed over to the District Attorney’s Office on January 15.

Aiyuk’s representative has yet to respond to requests for comment.

Drafted by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk has had notable success during his first four seasons with the team. However, things took a turn after he signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the team in August 2024.

He faced a knee injury just seven games into the 2024 season and has not played in the NFL since then.

In January, 49ers general manager John Lynch noted that the relationship between Aiyuk and the team was “not good,” stating that it was “no exaggeration to say this was his last play as a 49er.”

Currently, the Niners have been attempting to trade the wide receiver, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in April that San Francisco is encountering challenges in negotiating a deal with other teams.
