Kurt Alme and Alani Bankhead, supported by Trump, will compete in the Senate general election.

Montana Senate Primary Results

Kurt Alme, who previously served as the U.S. attorney for the District of Montana, has emerged victorious in the Republican primary for the Montana Senate seat. He will compete against Alani Bankhead, a Democratic candidate and Air Force veteran.

As of Tuesday, with 96% of the votes tallied, Associated Press reported Alme secured 76.3% of the votes in the Republican primary, while Bankhead garnered 43.7% in her party’s primary.

In March, former President Donald Trump expressed his support for Alme, commenting on the decision of incumbent Senator Steve Daines to not seek reelection after his term ended.

“It’s unfortunate for our country that Steve has decided to leave the Senate and pass the torch to Kurt Alme, my 45th and Trump 47th U.S. Attorney,” Trump stated. “Kurt possesses exceptional skills, and I’m fully supporting him based on Steve’s strong endorsement.”

Alme, who is 59 and hails from Montana, has a legal background that includes clerking for U.S. District Judge Charles Lovell. He was formerly a partner at Crowley Fleck law firm in Billings before serving as the Montana Department of Revenue Commissioner under Governor Judy Mertz, focusing on tax reforms.

In 2017, Trump nominated Alme as the U.S. attorney for Montana, targeting issues like violent crime and drug trafficking, and he was nominated again in 2025.

Additionally, Alme received an endorsement from Sen. Daines, who is known for his affiliation with pro-life initiatives.

“Replacing Sen. Daines is a tough challenge, and the stakes are high. Winning in Montana is vital for maintaining a pro-life majority in the Senate and countering Democratic proposals on abortion funding,” stated Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of SBA Pro-Life America. “Kurt’s service history and the trust he has gained from pro-life leaders indicate he is well-equipped to be a genuine advocate for pro-life values in the Senate.”

On the Democratic side, Alani Bankhead, 43, served over 21 years in the Air Force, where she participated in special operations. Her campaign asserts her experience includes hunting down terrorists and acting as a senior bodyguard for a top Pentagon leader.

Bankhead is also in favor of term limits for Congress and aims to enhance access to healthcare, mental health services, education, and support for small businesses and rural communities.

In related news, Aaron Flint, a decorated Army veteran, secured the Republican nomination for the 1st District House seat with 50% of the vote. In the Democratic primary, while 99% of votes were counted, no formal candidates were announced from a competitive group that included several veterans and authors.

Both Alme and Bankhead will vie for their respective positions in the general election scheduled for November 3rd.
