Iran Launches Missile and Drone Attacks on Kuwait
Iran initiated a series of drone and missile strikes targeting its Gulf neighbors, which resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries, as reported by Kuwaiti officials.
The Kuwaiti Army’s General Staff noted that Iran fired 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones into Kuwaiti airspace, aiming at civilian infrastructure. The interception of these missiles occurred over populated areas, causing debris to fall.
“This Iranian aggression targeted vital civilian facilities, including Kuwait International Airport, leading to the death of an Indian expatriate and injuries to several others, along with considerable material damage,” the Kuwait Army stated on social media.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the attack, reporting one death and dozens of civilians injured.
Since hostilities began, Iran has launched a total of 15 cruise missiles, 372 ballistic missiles, and 869 drones into Kuwaiti airspace, according to the Kuwaiti Army.
In response, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) acknowledged the Iranian strikes that targeted U.S. forces in Kuwait, but emphasized that the assaults “failed to hit their intended targets” and that American air defenses successfully intercepted several drones.
CENTCOM reiterated that “no U.S. personnel or assets were harmed.” In a prior statement, CENTCOM indicated its forces had thwarted multiple Iranian missiles and drones and had taken retaliatory action against an Iranian military site on Qeshm Island.
“Iran launched various ballistic missiles toward neighboring countries; however, all missed their targets,” CENTCOM reported. “Two missiles meant for Kuwait fell short, and three aimed at Bahrain were intercepted by U.S. and Bahraini defenses.”
Just moments before, CENTCOM had shot down three Iranian drones reportedly targeting civilians navigating regional waters. It also carried out self-defense operations against a control station in Iran.
“No U.S. personnel were harmed,” they added, affirming their commitment to be ready against any unprovoked Iranian actions during the ongoing ceasefire.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the attacks caused substantial damage to key facilities and diplomatic locations.
On Wednesday, Kuwaiti officials submitted a formal protest regarding the ongoing Iranian aggression to the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait. They also decided to reduce the Iranian diplomatic presence in the country and declared two Iranian diplomats unwelcome, giving them 24 hours to leave Kuwait.
“The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Kuwait’s strong condemnation of these Iranian attacks, rejecting the use of its territory for any hostile actions,” the ministry stated.
The Kuwaiti Army expressed condolences to the grieving family of the deceased and wishes for a swift recovery for the wounded.
“We extend our sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased and wish all the injured a speedy recovery,” they said.
The Minister of Defense visited the injured, hoping for their quick recovery and well-being.
CENTCOM also disputed claims from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps about successfully striking U.S. targets in Bahrain.
“All Iranian attacks on American forces have been ineffective. U.S. forces remain alert and prepared to confront any unprovoked Iranian strikes,” they stated.
