Trump’s Strong Words for Netanyahu Amid Iran Tensions
President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that he expressed serious concerns to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Iran’s threat to halt negotiations with the U.S. due to Israel’s actions in Lebanon.
According to a report from Axios, which relied on information from two U.S. officials and another source, Trump was critical during a phone call with Netanyahu.
In the call, Trump reportedly said, “You’re really crazy. If it wasn’t for me you’d be in jail. I’ll save your ass. Now everyone hates you. Everyone hates Israel because of this.” One official relayed that Trump was “infuriated” at times and even shouted, “What the hell are you doing?”
During an interview with the New York Post’s Miranda Devine on the “Pod Force One” podcast, Devine inquired about the accuracy of these claims. Trump acknowledged his feelings, saying, “I was a little upset that he was constantly fighting Lebanon,” and added, “At one point I said, ‘Bibi, this has to stop, this has to stop.’
Despite his frustration, Trump emphasized that he has a solid relationship with Netanyahu, stating, “I really like Bibi and have worked very well with him.” He went on to describe their collaboration, mentioning the world’s current wartime context and their effective partnership.
When asked about the phone call in an interview with CNBC Now, Netanyahu opted not to share details, stating that they have had numerous conversations over time. “We’ve always found a way,” he said, highlighting their agreements, particularly on critical issues like Iran’s nuclear program.
Netanyahu reflected on their dynamic, likening it to a close family that might have tactical disagreements but ultimately resolves them as friends, saying, “Even if we disagree in the morning, we can take common action in the afternoon.”
Following discussions with Netanyahu and a separate call with Hezbollah, Trump announced a ceasefire between the two parties, indicating that discussions between the U.S. and Iran would persist.
