Stanley Cup Finals Game Interrupted by Injury
During Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals, a distressing incident unfolded when a player was hospitalized after being struck in the face by a puck.
Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb had to leave the ice after taking a shot clocked at 87 mph.
It happened just past the halfway point of the first period when Carolina’s Nikolaj Ehlers fired a slapshot that hit McNabb. He immediately dropped his stick and collapsed on the ice, grabbing his nose before quickly heading to the locker room.
Reports from ESPN indicated that McNabb exited the arena early in the second period and was transported to a local hospital.
Interestingly, McNabb had recorded his first three-assist game in NHL history just in the previous match. He’s been with the Golden Knights since their inception nearly a decade ago, marking his third time in the Finals.
Captain Mark Stone expressed his thoughts, stating, “It’s tough to lose a player like Navar, who has been such a valuable teammate and plays with great intensity.” He added that the team had fought hard on the ice.
Defenseman Noah Hanifin shared similar sentiments, noting how difficult it is to witness an incident like this involving a key player. “It’s hard to see that happen. We all wish him a speedy recovery,” he mentioned.
Head coach John Tortorella did not provide any updates about McNabb after the game.
In terms of game progress, the Golden Knights were in command with a 2-0 lead in the third period but soon surrendered that advantage. Just moments before the end, Seth Jarvis from the Hurricanes scored to tie the series at 1 before the teams continue their journey west.
