Ocasio-Cortez Open to 2028 Presidential Run, Prioritizes Health Care
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, representing New York, hasn’t dismissed the idea of running for president in 2028. However, she emphasized that expanding health care is more pressing than pursuing a higher office.
“Can I be president? Or maybe not,” Ocasio-Cortez remarked when asked about her ambitions.
She consistently redirected the discussion from her political aspirations back to policy impacts, asserting that the significance of public office lies in its achievements. Ocasio-Cortez posited that realizing universal health care would mark a greater success than obtaining any specific title, including the presidency.
“What’s more essential is ensuring health care for everyone in this country,” she expressed in a conversation with FOX News Digital.
There’s growing speculation regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s future in politics. Although she hasn’t formally declared a campaign for 2028, she hasn’t closed the door on that possibility either.
When probed about her potential candidacy, her response was somewhat cryptic: “The answer is the answer.”
Framing her thoughts around the need for broader health care access, she questioned whether the presidency is the most effective avenue for achieving such goals. “Maybe there’s a scenario where that isn’t the right role,” she suggested, underlining that the priority should be on providing health care to the populace.
This isn’t the first time she’s tackled questions about a potential bid for the White House. At a recent event in Chicago with Democratic strategist David Axelrod, Ocasio-Cortez emphasized her ambitions extend beyond merely securing a particular office, asserting that her desire is to enact meaningful change in the country.
“Presidents come and go,” she remarked, but essential issues like single-payer health care, a living wage, and workers’ rights are enduring priorities.
Speculation about her potential run intensified after she shared a Verasight poll on social media, indicating a narrow lead over Vice President J.D. Vance (51% to 49%).
Reacting to the poll, she simply commented “LOL!” and later added that if they were to compete in an election, she would “stomp on him.”
Ocasio-Cortez is among a growing group of Democrats being discussed as potential candidates for the 2028 presidential race, alongside notable figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
