Trump to Attend NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden

President Donald Trump has accepted an invitation from James Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks, to attend the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden next week.

The New York native and dedicated Knicks fan shared on Thursday that he plans to attend both Game 3 on Monday and Game 4 on Wednesday. When asked about the invitation, Trump confirmed, “The answer is yes — he’s invited me, I’m going,” while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office.

The Knicks, aiming for their first championship since 1973, currently hold a 1-0 lead against the San Antonio Spurs before Game 2 on Friday night in Texas.

Trump mentioned that he watched the opening game and was particularly impressed with the Spurs’ center, Victor Wembanyama. “He’s a great player,” Trump remarked, adding, “I said, ‘How do you guard this guy?’ He’s 7-foot-5 and has a great shot.”

NBA commissioner Adam Silver welcomed Trump’s attendance, noting that it would mark the first occasion a sitting president attends an NBA Finals game. “President Trump is very much a New Yorker,” Silver shared. “I’m thrilled another New Yorker wants to participate in the enthusiasm and the joy around this Knicks team.”

To ensure Trump’s safety, additional security measures will be in place during the games. Silver commented, “There should be extra security for the president of the United States to be at a game, but I think the fans are very understanding of that. It adds to the bigness of the event.”
