Trump Expands Discounted Prescription Drug Program

President Donald Trump announced a significant expansion of efforts to provide Americans with cheaper prescription drugs. In a post on Truth Social, he shared that 160 new prescription drugs have been added to the TrumpRx.gov website, increasing the total number of discounted drugs available to over 800.

“I am pleased to announce that TrumpRx.gov is adding 160 additional prescription drugs at deep discounts,” Trump stated, highlighting how the program stands to benefit many users by making clearer discounts accessible.

He noted that the initiative, launched in February, aims to tackle the issue of high drug prices in the U.S., which, according to him, have historically been higher than those in many other countries. This website came about after agreements with 16 major pharmaceutical companies concerning “most-favored-nation” pricing, allowing them to offer lower prices on select drugs in exchange for exemptions related to tariffs.

Well-known companies like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk are part of this program and are expected to lower prices for popular medications, such as the GLP-1 weight loss drug. Additionally, discounts are being offered on various other medications including inhalers, drugs for HIV, diabetes, and fertility treatments.

TrumpRx.gov allows users to search for discounted prescriptions, view potential savings, and create coupons for the medications available through the program.

Trump expressed that these measures build on his past efforts to reduce prescription costs, asserting pride in having lowered prices even slightly during his first term—something he claims many predecessors failed to achieve without raising prices instead.

“During my second term, I’ve emphasized most-favored-nation treatment,” he said, arguing that his administration’s approach means Americans shouldn’t pay more than people in other countries for the same drugs. He also suggested that the current pricing reductions can be striking, sometimes up to 600 percent.

Furthermore, Trump pointed out the considerable savings this program has already provided, estimating over $400 million saved for American patients since its inception. He attributed much of this to the use of tariffs, which he says has shifted the burden away from American consumers who had long faced inflated costs.

In closing, he expressed optimism about the future of the program, stating he expects even more agreements to further reduce drug prices for Americans.
