FBI Arrests Three Men for Alleged ISIS Support
On Friday, the FBI made arrests in Kansas and California, taking three men into custody on charges of conspiring to support ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist group.
The individuals arrested include Bisaam Ghafoor, 21, from Leawood, Kansas; Elias Shamsardeen, 21, from Porterville, California; and Bereen Zayi, 25, from Lakeside, California. A complaint in the District of Kansas indicates that Ghafoor wired over $2,000 to someone believed to be an ISIS member, which led to his arrest, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the suspects had pledged allegiance to ISIS and were believed to be planning attacks against U.S. military personnel.
“The FBI intercepted them effectively,” Patel remarked. “This operation highlights how committed we are to preventing terrorist attacks and protecting the American public. I thank our counterterrorism teams in various cities for their remarkable efforts throughout this investigation.”
Documents revealed that the suspects were in contact from February 2025 to June 2026, discussing various plans to support ISIS, which included sending personnel, services, and money.
They reportedly expressed their commitment to ISIS through message platforms like Discord and would have discussions on social media about promoting violence in favor of the group.
Ghafoor mentioned it was “sickening” to see his name associated with a drone targeting Americans, while Zayi suggested marking U.S. military special forces as potential drone targets.
Additionally, Shamsardeen indicated a desire to stab and harm service members. Ghafoor went as far as to say he has always wanted to kill female soldiers, even expressing a wish to kill “300 million Americans.”
The complaint also noted that Ghafoor’s name could be linked to a projectile intended for use in attacks on U.S. service members abroad.
Shamsardeen allegedly provided funds intended for drones that would target U.S. military personnel overseas. Authorities reported that they discussed traveling outside the U.S. to join ISIS and even mentioned the willingness to die in this cause.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized, “Our administration remains alert against threats from terrorists and other violent actors. The arrests today reflect our commitment to dismantling terrorist networks. Thanks to the FBI, the alleged plot was disrupted, preventing further violence against service members.”
U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas, Ryan Kriegshauser, noted the importance of public vigilance in reporting suspicious activities. “Terrorist threats no longer occur only in distant lands; they exist within our own borders, and it’s crucial we work together to combat them,” he stated.
The investigation involved the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force across multiple field offices.
