Highlights from the Knicks’ 105-104 win over the Spurs in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Friday night in San Antonio:
Hero
Mikal Bridges might have been quiet in the closing moments, but he really stepped up for the Knicks when Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson were on the bench during the late third quarter.
He ended the game with 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists. It’s starting to feel like the five first-round draft picks the Knicks sent to the Nets may not mean much after all.
Zero
In a critical moment, Victor Wembaneyama turned the ball over when he had a chance to take what could have been the winning shot. He finished with 29 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks, but it wasn’t enough.
That turnover, along with a foul by Brunson, paved the way for the Knicks’ captain to sink the game-winning free throw with just 9.5 seconds left.
The Unsung Hero
The bench really made a difference again, especially with Landry Shamet scoring 13 points. Other players like Miles McBride, Mitchell Robinson, and Jose Alvarado also made significant contributions, particularly as the Spurs seemed to gain momentum late in the third quarter.
Thanks to their help, the Knicks managed to stretch their lead from four to nine points in the final 3:19 of that period.
Main Status
3: The Knicks have become the third team in NBA Finals history to win their first two games on the road, joining the 1993 Bulls and the 1995 Rockets.
Quotation
“It started with [Mitchell Robinson] and four others boxed and finished. So, great job by Mitch guarding the most iconic player in the world for two possessions and probably winning the game. It’s amazing.”
