Trump’s Interview with NBC Turns Contentious

During a recent episode of “Meet the Press,” an interview between President Donald Trump and NBC’s Kristin Welker escalated into a heated exchange. Tensions rose as they discussed a proposed fund intended to provide reparations to Americans believed to have been politically targeted during Joe Biden’s presidency.

President Trump asserted, “There were a lot of dirty cops, and frankly what they did was weaponize the government,” while referencing events surrounding January 6. Welker countered, claiming, “There’s no evidence of that.” Trump quickly shot back with, “Just look at the tape.”

Welker attempted to bolster her points by citing the numerous individuals who have admitted guilt in cases involving assaults on police officers. Trump responded, claiming those individuals were coerced into pleading guilty due to fears of prolonged incarceration.

The fund discussed by Trump, which Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche mentioned would not be actively supported by the Department of Justice, is intended to operate on a case-by-case basis rather than a broad application.

As the conversation progressed, they delved into the topic of election fraud surrounding the 2020 presidential election, with Trump criticizing California’s slow vote-counting process. He questioned the appropriateness of not announcing election results until days after ballots were cast.

“Do you think it’s appropriate that we’re not even at the stage of picking a winner until five days after we hold an election?” Trump asked. Welker noted that state and local authorities admitted to their sluggish response. Trump’s response was direct: “No, they’re twisted… Your press is crooked. And ‘Meet the Press’ is crooked.” He reiterated claims that elections are rigged and criticized news outlets for biased reporting.

Trump further accused various media, including ABC, CBS, and CNN, of being “crooked,” labeling them as “one-sided” in their coverage.

Throughout the conversation, Welker repeatedly pointed out that Trump’s assertions lacked evidence, which he staunchly disputed. Ultimately, the tension led to Trump cutting the interview short.

As the interview concluded, Welker was seen pleading with Trump to continue, but he simply stated, “Thank you, darling. Have a nice day,” before walking away.
