Fireworks Trailer Catches Fire on Tennessee Highway
A trailer packed with fireworks ignited and erupted on a Tennessee highway this past Saturday, while astonishingly, the truck it was hitched to managed to avoid the disaster. Bizarre footage captures the chaotic scene.
Traffic was halted on Interstate 75 North in Hamilton County as a white pickup truck started emitting smoke along the roadside. The box trailer attached to it caught fire while it was moving, though the exact cause of the blaze remains unclear.
Emergency services, including the Chattanooga Fire Department and the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, rushed to the scene, while other agencies worked to divert traffic to keep everyone safe from the unexpected fireworks display.
Cameron Parker, a local resident, stumbled upon the bizarre event while investigating what he thought was an explosion. “What’s going on?” he wondered as he approached the guardrail of the bridge overseeing the road.
As he perched next to other spectators, Parker noticed smoke trailing in the distance, accompanied by a barrage of fireworks lighting up the sky. Sparks were flying across the highway, leaving onlookers bewildered.
“Is this the grand finale?” Parker quipped humorously as the fireworks gradually dimmed.
The situation was undeniably wild. “This is insane. I heard it before I saw it. I literally pulled over, came across the bridge, and couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he remarked.
Video footage of the incident has since gone viral, amassing over 3 million views by Sunday night.
Images shared by the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department showed the burnt remnants of the trailer while firefighters doused the flames. Fortunately, the white truck appeared mostly intact aside from some minor scorch marks.
There were no reported injuries, and traffic finally began to move again around 11 p.m., more than three hours after the highway was closed.
