Kurt Busch Reflects on Brother’s Passing

Kurt Busch is grappling with the loss of his brother, Kyle, who passed away at 41 on May 21. Kyle had recently stepped back from participating in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway due to a significant illness.

Kurt, a well-known NASCAR driver, shared his sorrow on Monday. He recalled moments from their shared past in an emotional Instagram post featuring a collage of their pictures together.

“Reflecting on the days we supported each other, I think about all we raced for,” he wrote. “From childhood fun to competing at the highest levels in motorsports, we were more than rivals. We learned from each other and inspired each other. Kyle, your passion and dedication to your family touched everyone who met you. Nothing can truly represent your impact on my life or many others.”

“I’ll always cherish the memories we created and the bond we had. My heart aches, but I believe your spirit remains by my side. Rest peacefully, brother.”

Kurt expressed gratitude for the support his family has received after Kyle’s unexpected passing. “I really appreciate everyone’s kindness, support, and love for my brother and our family,” he added.

Kurt, set to be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2026, had once commented on his brother’s talent, joking about his own skills. “I might be a decent driver, but wait until you meet my brother. He’s the best in the family,” he said.

Kyle had joined Kurt’s Roosh Racing team at the age of 16, but changes in age requirements allowed him to break free from karting’s limitations.

Aiming for success, Kyle signed with Hendrick Racing in 2003 and swiftly gained recognition. He became a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion in 2015 and 2019, also crowned a two-time regular season champion. Notably, he holds the record for the most wins in NASCAR history across its three series, totaling 234 victories.

Kyle’s passing leaves behind not only Kurt but also his wife, Samantha, and their two children, Brexton, who recently turned 11, and Lennix, aged 4.
