Sheriff reports kidnapping suspect sought near Tucson home of Nancy Guthrie

The sheriff’s office in Tucson is currently investigating the alleged kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie. Recently, they issued a warning regarding another suspect—Coral Michelle Smith, a 40-year-old woman wanted for kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

This incident took place on May 29 at the intersection of River Road and La Choya Boulevard, not too far from Guthrie’s home, specifically about 11 miles away. It’s worth noting that the sheriff’s office hasn’t disclosed many additional details about this case.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office sent out a “Be Alert” message, highlighting Smith’s alleged involvement. They are asking the public for help; anyone who sees her or has information should call 911.

Interestingly, there has been no confirmed link between Smith and Guthrie’s disappearance, which is still under investigation. Smith has a history of legal troubles, with past charges that include kidnapping and assault. A charge in 2020 was dismissed, but she was convicted for burglary associated with that case, which involved a victim under 15 years old.

Smith has been incarcerated multiple times and is known to use various aliases, including “Coral Albright.” She has several distinctive tattoos, like a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, a rose with a flame on her right foot, and “love, life family” on her left foot. However, some specific details, like a tattoo on her wrist, were absent from the wanted flyer.

As for Guthrie’s case, no suspects have been identified in her February 1 disappearance, although a man was seen on her doorbell camera footage just before she went missing. Authorities described him as being of average height, roughly between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Interestingly, some analysts speculate that the intruder might actually be a woman, which throws another twist into the investigation. However, Smith is shorter than the figure seen on the camera and is listed at around 5 feet 6 inches and 136 pounds.

Anyone who might have information regarding Smith is urged to report it, as there is a $1,000 reward for leads that could help in her arrest. The community is also pushed to share any details related to Guthrie’s abduction by contacting 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Guthrie herself, the 84-year-old mother of television host Savannah Guthrie, has been open about the difficulty of returning to normalcy after such an unsettling event. She took a break from the show to focus on the investigation but has since returned to the air.

In the early days following her disappearance, several individuals were detained but were later released without any charges being filed against them.
