Austin Metcalf's Father Speaks to Karmelo Anthony Following Sentencing

Carmelo Anthony Sentenced for Murder

In a Texas courtroom, Jeff Metcalfe expressed his deep anger after a jury sentenced Carmelo Anthony to 35 years in prison for the murder of his son, Austin. He called out Anthony, demanding him to make eye contact.

“We’ve had everything taken from us. Don’t look away,” Metcalfe said, emphasizing that, in his view, this situation shouldn’t be politicized. “It’s not about race; it’s about right versus wrong. We’re all human. We all bleed the same.” His words were powerful, reflecting both frustration and pain.

He continued, stressing the importance of choices and the inevitable consequences that come with them. “You can make choices, but you can’t escape what follows. Starting today, you’ll face those consequences,” he said passionately. There was palpable anger, a desire for accountability.

In a moment of intense emotion, Metcalfe reportedly slammed his hand on the table, showcasing what he described as “pure anger.” He challenged Anthony directly: “You’ve let down your parents, yourself, and society. You don’t belong here. You’re going to jail. You can’t even look me in the eye after you’ve stabbed my son.” It was a raw expression of heartbreak and outrage.

Austin’s mother conveyed her sorrow in her own message to Anthony, telling him, “You were sentenced to 35 years, but I’m serving a life sentence without my son.” That sentiment—what it means to lose a child—lingered in the air.

Anthony was convicted of killing 17-year-old Austin during a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in 2025. During the trial, he claimed self-defense, stating he acted after an altercation over seating. However, witnesses contradicted Anthony’s narrative, recounting how he had been asked multiple times to leave the tent where the incident occurred. Reports indicated that he escalated the conflict.

According to witness accounts, Austin confronted Anthony about vacating the memorial team tent. In a highly charged moment, it was reported that Anthony threatened him before the stabbing occurred. Austin was subsequently stabbed once in the chest and succumbed to his injuries in his twin brother Hunter’s arms.

Immediately after the incident, Anthony confessed to the stabbing, asserting, “I did it,” expressing a sense of inevitability about the consequences.

After the trial, where evidence pointed towards Anthony provoking the altercation, he received a 35-year prison sentence, with no eligibility for parole until half of that time has been served.
