Jasmine Crockett: Knife That Killed Austin Metcalf Not Considered a ‘Deadly Weapon’

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) seems to be downplaying the size of the pocket knife used by Carmelo Anthony, who was convicted for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf during a dispute at a Texas high school athletic event last year.

Crockett, a representative who recently lost a Senate race, made these remarks on her podcast, Ticking the Clock with Croquet. During an episode titled “Carmelo Anthony, Justice and Race,” she made several comments that were criticized as misleading regarding the incident where Anthony, then 17, stabbed Metcalf in the chest with a knife at a track meet in Frisco.

“Wait a minute, was this it?” she said, gesturing with her thumb and forefinger about an inch apart to suggest the size of the knife involved in Metcalf’s death.

“Was it a switch? I don’t know what he had,” Crockett added.

One of Crockett’s sources described the knife as resembling a “multi-tool” or a Swiss Army knife.

“Yeah, like little scissors or whatever. That’s why they were small,” she remarked.

“Well, just looking at its size, I don’t think it would be considered a deadly weapon,” she continued.

Crockett also expressed that black women, particularly those raising children with black men, experience a greater level of fear and pain than Metcalf’s family.

The knife that Anthony used caused a two-inch wound in Metcalf’s heart, leading to significant blood loss. Reports indicate that Anthony’s defense consistently maintains he acted in self-defense. Witnesses stated that Metcalf was simply trying to remove Anthony from the track team’s tent after he was repeatedly asked to leave.

Witness Eddie Parra, 18, recounted that Anthony became confrontational, challenging Metcalf and implying he had a weapon when he reached into his bag. Following this, witnesses reported that Metcalf pushed Anthony, who then produced a knife and stabbed him.

Ultimately, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of Metcalf. Crockett did not respond to requests for comment from Breitbart News at the time.
