Homeless Individuals on Skid Row Reportedly Offered Bribes to Vote in Los Angeles Mayoral Election

Concerns Over Voter Payments in Los Angeles Elections

Recent reports have surfaced indicating that residents of Skid Row may have been incentivized to vote in the Los Angeles mayoral elections, raising serious concerns about the integrity of elections in California.

Local reporters have uncovered instances where homeless individuals claim they were offered between $2 and $4 to cast their votes for Democratic incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and progressive City Council member Nitya Rama in the upcoming general election in November.

In March, The Daily Caller revealed that investigative journalist James O’Keefe sent undercover reporters to Skid Row, where they found election petitioners encouraging homeless individuals to falsify the names, addresses, and signatures of registered voters for minimal compensation, highlighting potential fraud.

One social media user, @LANeedsSpencerPratt, posted videos showcasing interviews with Skid Row residents who echoed claims of being paid to vote. For example, one homeless woman mentioned she received $2 to vote for Bass and described how she was asked to “sign little things” in exchange, adding that she visits frequently. Another individual recounted being initially offered $2 but managed to negotiate his payment to $4 after some interaction with Bass.

This issue of alleged election misconduct has even attracted the attention of the Department of Justice (DOJ). A woman from California, identified as Brenda Lee Brown Armstrong, has been arrested for allegedly paying individuals on Skid Row and faces felony charges related to voter registration misconduct. Armstrong has a history of gathering signatures for various ballot measures in the area.

“False registration undermines trust in the electoral process, particularly when financial incentives come into play,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon. “The DOJ is dedicated to ensuring that all elections in America are fair and free from illegal influences, so that citizens can have confidence in the outcomes.”

Meanwhile, Republican candidate Spencer Pratt has seen a decline in his position, dropping to third place and being removed from the November 3rd ballot. This shift comes after he briefly held second place in the primary election on June 2nd. The sudden rise of progressive City Council member Nitya Raman has intensified suspicions surrounding possible election fraud, as Pratt secured only 26% of the vote. He is set to face Bass in the general election.
