Ben Stiller Faces Hypocrisy Accusations
Actor Ben Stiller is under scrutiny after he appeared to ignore a homeless man while attending a New York Knicks game on Wednesday night. The incident, which was captured on video, sparked a conversation about celebrity accountability.
Stiller, known for his early arrival at Madison Square Garden—more than four hours before the game—was walking to his seat for the NBA Finals match against the San Antonio Spurs when the encounter occurred. Some observers quickly pointed out the apparent contradiction in his behavior.
In 2016, Stiller advocated for New York City’s homeless population, actively participating in campaigns to raise awareness. He once urged residents to consider their own comforts while others struggled, saying, “Are you having fun at home right now? Thousands of others aren’t.”
Moreover, he has been involved with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), supporting efforts to assist displaced individuals around the globe. In a notable meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in 2022, Stiller praised him, calling him “my hero.”
This backlash comes as commenters on social media criticized Stiller for walking past the homeless man. Remarks included pointed observations about the disconnect between celebrity lifestyles and the realities faced by those in need. One user remarked, “Rich celebrities just walk by a guy overdosing on fentanyl,” while another noted the glaring contrast between a celebrity’s life and a struggling individual’s plight. It raises questions about awareness and responsibility, especially in light of Stiller’s previous activism.
In a related interview, Stiller clarified that he does not hold a season ticket but rather receives individual game tickets from the Knicks. This comment further fueled discussions about his understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness.
