Update on Francisco Lindor’s Return
Francisco Lindor, the star shortstop for the Mets, is still unclear about when he might return to action, but he reportedly has a date in mind. According to Jon Heyman, Lindor may be looking at June 20th as his target for a comeback.
Lindor has been out since late April due to a calf strain, and he recently shared with Dan Martin from the Post that he hopes to get back on the field as soon as he can. Mets captain Carlos Mendoza mentioned earlier this week that Lindor is expected to resume full baseball activities soon, and from there, they’ll decide on the next steps.
Interestingly, Lindor’s injury happened on April 22, which coincidentally was when Juan Soto returned from his own calf issue. Lindor, a five-time All-Star, expressed his positive outlook on recovery in a recent interview, noting he feels good and has been progressing well.
“I can do everything. I feel like I’m getting better. I continue to check every box they gave me,” he noted, conveying a sense of optimism. Though he’s eager to play, he indicated that everything is unfolding according to plan based on feedback from the team.
Before his injury, Lindor participated in just 24 games this season, with a batting line of .226/.314/.355, tallying 21 hits and five RBIs. The Mets have struggled notably without both Lindor and Soto on the field at the same time, as they have each faced injury-related setbacks.
Currently, the Mets find themselves at the bottom of the NL East, trailing the Braves by 15 games. They recently pulled off a 5-4 win against the Cardinals on Thursday and are now gearing up for a weekend series against the Braves at Citi Field.
