Following Game 4 of the NBA Finals, a shocking video surfaced showing a large group of young individuals, including at least one in Knicks gear, attacking staff at a Five Guys in Manhattan.
According to New York City police, around 3 a.m. Thursday, a violent crowd invaded the burger restaurant on West 42nd Street near Seventh Avenue and assaulted a 24-year-old worker, who ended up bleeding behind the counter.
Footage of the incident, shared widely on social media, shows a group of about 12 young men throwing objects at an employee. Several individuals jumped over the counter, continuing to violently attack the employee as he attempted to defend himself by tossing fries at them.
“Oh, they’re killing him, oh!” someone shouted as a man in a white tank top aggressively slammed furniture into the employee, knocking him to the floor and trapping him against a wall under a pile of chairs.
The Five Guys worker was reportedly left covered in blood and barefoot when the mob started to flee after someone yelled “Cancel, Cancel, Cancel.”
Police reported that the employee sustained cuts to his right arm during the incident.
Some videos circulating claim the attack stemmed from the employee being a San Antonio Spurs supporter, though he wasn’t wearing any Spurs gear. One of the attackers had on a Knicks T-shirt, and another man inside sported a Knicks hat, but it remains unclear if they played a role in the violence.
Post-Game 4, the areas surrounding Madison Square Garden were chaotic, with numerous arrests made and ten NYPD officers injured in riots, including one officer struck in the head by a glass bottle, as stated by law enforcement.
No arrests have been made connected to this assault, and the New York City Police Department indicated the unrest highlighted the necessity for a stronger police presence during such events.
Currently, the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
