Pennsylvania recently denied a request to reveal the criminal history of an immigrant receiving legal aid from progressive prosecutors, citing that one of the involved lawyers no longer maintains records. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s office has been resisting this records request from the Daily Caller News Foundation for three months. They aim to keep hidden the charges against individuals who are seeking protection from deportation. Krasner’s team stated in April that immigration lawyers do not currently keep such a list, even though they have made similar records public in the past. In a letter on Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Office of Open Records dismissed the request for a case list for 2025.
For quite some time, Krasner’s office, backed by Soros, has been providing legal aid to immigrants dealing with serious charges, but they refuse to disclose documents that would shed light on this issue.
“Based on the evidence provided,” the office did not respond to the request for comment. Prior reports indicated that Caleb Arnold, a former immigration attorney, had given free consultations to immigrants facing serious charges like murder and sexual assault. The current immigration attorney, Stephanie Costa, explained that her record-keeping methods differ from those of her predecessor, preventing her from complying with the request.
Krasner established the immigration attorney position in 2018 to assist foreign defendants in avoiding convictions that might impact their immigration statuses. The Office of Immigration Counsel has reviewed over 400 cases to date.
Now, the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee has called for documents related to all immigration attorney cases since 2018. They highlighted concerns about how prosecutors consider deportation and immigration implications in serious cases, raising questions about whether tax dollars are being used inappropriately to benefit those with serious criminal backgrounds.
In response, Krasner labeled the committee’s letter as part of a “false and authoritarian propaganda campaign.” He accused Republican representatives of promoting harmful deportation policies that discriminate against American citizens and nonviolent immigrants, favoring a few illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes.
