Controversy Surrounds Judge in Atlanta Over Misconduct Allegations

In Atlanta, Georgia, a judge appointed by Obama has come under scrutiny after being accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a senior police officer while in a waiting room. The judge, Eleanor Ross, admitted there was “no excuse” for her behavior.

Recently, she updated her apology to former clerks who reportedly overheard her and the police officer. According to a report from Bloomberg Law, Ross’s new letter came after concerns were raised that she hadn’t adequately addressed her actions with law enforcement.

The revised letter expressed profound regret, stating: “I deeply apologize for the harm I caused you by revealing my inappropriate personal relationship… My actions were clearly wrong, and there is no excuse.” She acknowledged that her initial apology fell short and did not fully take responsibility for her misconduct.

A special committee recently released findings of misconduct against judges, noting that former President Barack Obama nominated Ross in 2014. The report highlighted that she had sexual encounters with a police commander during work hours—disturbingly, within earshot of law clerks—creating an “extremely unpleasant and disturbing” work environment. It also indicated that Ross initially lied to the investigating judge and inappropriately participated in a political campaign event.

In response to the allegations, two Georgia Republicans, Reps. Clay Fuller and Andrew Clyde, are pushing for Ross’s impeachment. The article noted that the House Judiciary Committee will decide on the initiation of impeachment proceedings. Federal judges generally serve for life, being removed only through impeachment.

Fuller expressed his views on social media, emphasizing that “there are too many corrupt judges,” and stated he intends to introduce articles of impeachment against Ross for her actions. He criticized her for having an extramarital affair in her chambers and subsequently lying about it.

Reports suggest Ross engaged in sexual activity in her chambers five times over two years, with clerks allegedly hearing “disturbing sounds,” “kissing,” and even “music” through the walls.

In a statement, Clyde remarked, “When a judge becomes a political activist or engages in judicial misconduct, Congress has both the responsibility and authority to hold the judge accountable. Judge Ross’s deeply disturbing actions demonstrate that she is unfit to continue serving on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.”
