Maine Senate Candidate Under Fire for Past Reddit Posts
A Maine Senate candidate from the Democratic Party, Graham Platner, is facing backlash after a disturbing Reddit post resurfaced, where he allegedly mocked a teenage girl’s suicide attempt.
The post, dating back to May 2012, featured an image of a girl hanging from a window while a young man appeared to reach out for her. The caption read, “My cousin died the day before, so I tried to jump out the window. My students saved her. I have hope.”
Platner’s reaction, using the name P-Hustle on Reddit, was not sympathetic: “Clearly someone is not trying hard enough,” he replied.
In another Reddit post that has drawn attention, Platner joked in a military-style about being thankful to a porn star, saying, “Thank you for the cervix,” in response to a comment suggesting adult entertainers deserve appreciation for their work.
Maine House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham expressed concern, stating, “Mr. Graham Platner is clearly a man who has had serious and alarming psychological problems from before his military service to the present.” This isn’t the first time Platner, 41, has been criticized for his online behavior.
He has previously made controversial remarks, including boasting about inappropriate acts in a porta-potty and expressing disturbing views about Hamas and Purple Heart recipients. In a 2017 post, he mentioned, “I still have to masturbate every time I sit in Portasi…the smell of that blue water keeps me in shape.”
Platner’s comments extended to the topic of Hamas, referencing a video of their attacks on Israeli soldiers, where he remarked that the assault seemed “well-executed.” He also insulted a Purple Heart recipient, calling him unfit to live after discussing footage of a soldier under attack by Taliban forces.
His campaign has been marred by controversies surrounding his tattoos, which have links to Nazi symbolism. Platner has denied any prior knowledge of the meaning of these tattoos until late 2025 during his Senate run.
His ex-girlfriend, Lindsey Fifield, has alleged she was aware of the tattoo’s implications long before, attributing it to her belief that “America was the evil villain overseas.” She has also accused him of physical abuse, claiming he left marks and twisted her arm during their relationship.
Despite the allegations, Platner has not responded to requests for comment regarding this story.
Graham Platner previously made fun of a teenager’s suicide attempt in Reddit comments.
