A viral post alleging that hundreds of ballots supporting Spencer Pratt for mayor were found in a trash can in a non-existent part of Los Angeles has been debunked. That location simply doesn’t exist.
This fake conspiracy began trending on Saturday, originating from a parody account on X, stating, “Breaking News: 675 Spencer Pratt ballots found in SunRect’s trash can. Federal authorities are on the scene. Let the game begin.”
The claim spread quickly, prompting many to question the validity of the supposed location.
“Can you tell me exactly where San Recto is? Because it’s not on this planet,” one person responded.
“Where is San Recto? I know almost every place in Los Angeles, but it’s not familiar to me,” another user chimed in.
A fact-checker later pointed out that “there is no city named San Recto in California, so it is not possible to claim a ballot found there.”
Some users joked about the fictional location, with one commenting, “I think you’re really referring to Saint Rectum because I just made that up.”
The post also gained traction on Reddit, where many readers mocked those who believed it.
“I’m dying to know how many people actually fell for this,” one user wrote.
Despite having a notable performance on Election Day, Pratt, known for his reality TV background, didn’t gather enough votes to move forward to a runoff against the current Mayor Karen Bass.
In fact, a week after the election, City Council member Nitya Raman was significantly ahead of Pratt, effectively eliminating him from the race while setting up a match against Bass in November.
