Georgia Republican Senate Runoff Election Results
Republican voters in Georgia turned out in large numbers to support the president’s recommendations.
The Senate runoff election held on Tuesday was decided by a substantial margin of over 700,000 votes, with the candidate favored by President Trump taking the win.
“Now it’s time to get to work,” was a statement reflecting the mood of the victor.
Incumbent Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) received a notable endorsement from Trump just two days prior to the election. Trump praised Collins as “a highly respected congressman who has been with me from the beginning.” It was quite the boost for Collins just before the vote.
Interestingly, Derek Dooley, a former football coach at the University of Tennessee, did better than Collins in areas near Atlanta, including Fulton County, where the state capital is situated. However, Collins emerged victorious, capturing approximately 56% of the votes compared to Dooley.
Collins’ win closely mirrored the margin from the May primary, where he garnered about 41% of the votes and Dooley around 30%. In this latest runoff, Dooley again finished 11 points behind, achieving nearly 45% of the total votes.
Collins has long been seen as the front-runner, being a MAGA-aligned Republican. Polls prior to the election indicated he held an average lead of 11.5 points over Dooley. Still, leading up to the runoff, his advantage had shrunk to just 2 points.
Looking ahead, Collins will face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in the November general election. Ossoff has held his position since 2021 and faced no opposition in the Democratic primary.
After his victory, Collins expressed his honor to be the Republican nominee via a social media post. He emphasized the urgency to defeat Ossoff and reclaim the seat for Georgia.
Collins remarked, “It’s time to get to work, defeat Jon Ossoff, and take back this seat for the people of this state. Hammer down!”
Previously, Trump had also endorsed Collins, referring to him as a “friend” and expressing his support in various communications.
On a final note, the president reassured voters that Collins would strive to “grow the economy, reduce taxes and regulations, promote MADE IN THE USA, and defend America’s energy advantage.” Collins echoed these sentiments regarding immigration, stating that America’s foundations are built on hard work and perseverance.
