$351.6M allocated to Secret Service for security measures at the White House

White House supports Trump ballroom project following report of possible burden on taxpayers

President Trump Offers Insight into White House Ballroom Project

President Donald Trump has shared details about the White House Ballroom project, highlighting its unique design and its purpose as a secure location for important events. He described the project as a contribution to the nation, financed by supporters, aiming to accommodate up to 2,000 guests and bolster the safety of future leaders.

While Trump is focused on constructing a ballroom where the East Wing once stood, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has allocated $351.6 million to the Secret Service for “White House security measures.” This fund, approved recently, includes $340.8 million earmarked for “procurement, construction and improvements,” along with an additional $10.75 million for “operations and support,” as per OMB records.

This funding is part of the comprehensive One Big Beautiful Bill, which provided $1.7 billion to the Secret Service and passed through a budget reconciliation last July. The allocated funds would cover agent personnel, training facilities, programming, technology, and bonuses.

Republicans emphasize $400 million fundraising for Trump’s banquet, while some Democrats are considering discussing the idea.

It’s uncertain if the $351.6 million designated for safety measures will be applied to the ballroom project, which faces legal challenges. White House Press Secretary Davis Ingle stated that the East Wing modernization initiative is closely related to the security of the President and the White House grounds.

Ingle elaborated that the ballroom’s announcement highlighted collaboration with military entities and the U.S. Secret Intelligence Service in its planning and design. He asserted that Trump and dedicated American supporters have committed approximately $400 million to ensure the ballroom serves as a safe venue for future presidents.

Ingle also pointed to recent incidents, including a thwarted attack on the UFC Freedom 250 event, to emphasize the necessity of enhancing security features, such as structures resistant to drones.

Trump mentioned that a substantial six-story facility would be built below the banquet hall, comprising a military hospital, research centers, conference rooms, and security systems relating to drone and missile defense. He previously asserted that the ballroom’s construction costs would be covered through private donations, not taxpayer money.

Trump claims that the donor-funded ballroom will include hidden security-focused designs:

There’s some debate about the estimated costs. Contractors suggest the banquet hall could end up costing around $600 million, with a significant portion covered by taxpayers, as reported recently.

Trump has maintained that gathering venues are essential for enhancing the safety of presidential events. This need became all the more apparent following an incident where the FBI prevented a planned drone attack near the UFC Freedom 250 event.

The demolition of the East Wing occurred in October 2025 to pave the way for the banquet hall, sparking a lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The organization contends that the administration skipped critical review processes and that Congress needs to approve the project.

In March, a federal judge indicated that the Trump administration likely overstepped its authority and halted construction. However, a D.C. Circuit Court later permitted construction to continue, awaiting an appeal from the White House.

Days after the court’s ruling, a gunman fired at Secret Service agents during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, highlighting ongoing security challenges.

Following this incident, Trump and his supporters have advocated for gatherings in the planned banquet hall to prevent future security oversights.

In light of the mass shooting occurrence on May 23, Trump reiterated the urgency of building these banquet halls. He emphasized on Truth Social the importance of ensuring the utmost safety for all future presidential activities, asserting that “our national security” necessitates such measures.
