U.S. Coast Guard Seizes Over 225,000 Pounds of Cocaine in Operation Pacific Viper
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has seized more than 225,000 pounds of cocaine as part of their Operation Pacific Viper, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
As reported by DHS, the USCG made significant progress over the weekend in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, intercepting two suspected drug smuggling vessels and confiscating over 7,700 pounds of cocaine. In connection with these events, six individuals were arrested on drug-related charges.
“The total amount of cocaine seized during Operation Pacific Viper is equivalent to more than 93 million lethal doses,” the department noted.
Operation Pacific Viper, which commenced in August 2025, aims to combat drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific—an active route for smuggling activities from Central and South America. DHS has emphasized that about 80% of drug seizures headed for the U.S. occur at sea, underscoring the effectiveness of maritime intervention efforts.
“We own the ocean,” remarked Coast Guard Commander Adm. Kevin Landay. “Our military, through Operation Pacific Viper, continues to defeat cartels and stop the flow of deadly drugs into the United States.”
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin pointed out this achievement as a crucial step in addressing narco-terrorism, conveying a stern message against those profiting from drug trade. He stated, “Operation Pacific Viper stands as a decisive force against narco-terrorists and sends an unmistakable message that we will not allow them to profit from poisoning our people.”
Since the operation’s initiation, the Coast Guard has successfully prevented over 225,000 pounds of cocaine from entering American communities. Under President Trump’s administration, efforts are being made to dismantle drug cartels and save lives.
In fiscal year 2025, the USCG previously reported seizing around 510,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean, marking a substantial increase compared to the year before. The Coast Guard has stated it seized an annual average of 167,000 pounds of cocaine.
The Trump administration has adopted a vigorous strategy against drug trafficking in the Western Hemisphere, launching operations like Southern Spear in September, which included targeted actions against suspected drug merchant vessels.
