Following the tragic murder of his son, Austin, Jeff Metcalf is finally sharing his thoughts, thoughts that he had to hold back for quite some time. In a conversation with Blaze TV Host Jason Whitlock, he emphasizes the role of faith in his journey, stating, “I have to give God 100% credit here. I’m not that smart. I couldn’t have come up with all this on my own.”
Mrs. Metcalf described the experience of losing her son as “surreal” and incredibly draining, both mentally and physically. Her son was subjected to relentless online vitriol and memes, which, under a gag order, they couldn’t address. When that gag order was lifted, well, it wasn’t exactly his shining moment, he admits, but it was a release of pent-up emotions.
Reflecting on that moment, he said, “It was raw, it was accurate, it was true. I don’t apologize for what I said. I am who I am. I own it.” While he usually avoids strong language, the emotional toll of walking away from that ordeal pushed him to express himself candidly.
He candidly expresses that if others were in his shoes after experiencing such a horrific crime against their child, they might, understandably, feel profound sadness. It could definitely have been worse, he remarked.
Since her son’s death, Mrs. Metcalf has received numerous threats and harsh messages, leading her to follow the discussions surrounding Anthony, one of the accused.
“The mean comments and the denial of truth are the hardest. It’s like the truth is out there, yet people refuse to accept it,” he said, reflecting on how frustrating it is to see the persistent belief in false narratives despite a clear verdict.
Addressing the topic of appeals, he firmly believes there won’t be a retrial. “This is a process I anticipated. I have no worries about their appeal. They don’t have a good reason,” he adds confidently.
More pressing for him, however, are the children who witnessed the crime. “What I want to highlight is how those kids will carry the trauma for life. They’re all in therapy, and they’ll never forget what they saw that day,” he expressed with evident concern.
