Mayor and Knicks Owner’s Verbal Showdown at Championship Parade
There’s something amusing about the whole situation… really, it’s quite comical.
Recently, New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani and Knicks owner James Dolan had a back-and-forth about watch parties related to the team.
Then, on Thursday, they finally came together at City Hall to wrap up the franchise’s championship parade. There was a palpable buzz during the event.
Dolan, while addressing reporters amidst the ongoing Observer Party War, remarked that the mayor wasn’t a genuine Knicks fan. It seemed Mamdani got to him during his speech. Right there on stage, just feet away from Dolan, Mamdani shared memories from the Knicks’ storied past, mentioning both legendary players and those less known. Among those he named was Charles Oakley, who had been banned from Madison Square Garden by Dolan back in 2017 after a well-publicized dispute.
In an energized speech lasting nearly eight minutes, Mamdani reflected on the Knicks’ long quest for a championship, filled with both heartbreak and determination to end a 53-year title dry spell in New York.

When Dolan took his turn at the mic, his approach was straightforward. He kept it very basic.
“We don’t need your vote. We don’t need to revisit what happened. If you’re a true Knicks fan, you already know,” Dolan stated.

Following the speeches, Mamdani presented keys to the city to players and staff, including Dolan and his son. During the photo op, they seemed a bit annoyed but still shook Mamdani’s hand.

Honestly, I don’t really like what Mamdani is doing to New York City, and I find myself appreciating Dolan’s less-than-ideal actions.
