Tim Walz’s approval rating drops below Trump’s in Minnesota during a scandal.

House Oversight report claims Walz overlooked billions in Minnesota fraud

Rep. James Comer seeks ‘real accountability’ in Minnesota fraud case

Representative James Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, has pointed out that officials in Minnesota, including Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, have disregarded warnings from whistleblowers regarding $300 million in federal nutrition fraud. Comer suggested that political motives — particularly fears of being labeled racist — influenced the decisions that allowed this fraud to persist and discouraged whistleblowing.

Meanwhile, Governor Walz’s approval ratings have dropped below those of former President Donald Trump, amidst ongoing fallout from a significant fraud scandal that unfolded under his administration. A recent poll by Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy indicated Walz’s approval rating at just 39%, with a disapproval rate of 53%, showing this is his lowest rating since taking office six years ago.

This survey, conducted through live phone interviews from June 8 to 10, 2026, involved 800 registered Minnesota voters likely to vote in the upcoming November election. The poll results reveal that 45% of voters trust Republicans more than Democrats — at 38% — to address the fraud issues, with 14% expressing no confidence in either party.

Walz, who has declared he won’t seek re-election and plans to step down in January, has faced critical scrutiny, particularly regarding the fraud scandal linked to the Somali immigrant community, which has resulted in billion-dollar losses for Minnesota taxpayers. His administration’s new state flag has also sparked controversy, as 50% of voters reportedly oppose it, labeling it too simplistic. Some critics have gone so far as to compare it to Somalia’s national flag.

Republican House Majority Leader Tom Emmer has articulated that the prevailing sentiments among most Minnesotans are a rejection of Walz’s leadership and the new flag. He noted that, according to the polls, the Democratic Party is adversely affected by the current fraud crisis. Additionally, he criticized Walz for seeming to prioritize political correctness over the concerns of law-abiding residents.

Fraud scandals appear to have had a major impact on Walz’s approval ratings, which have plummeted by 10 points over the past year. While only 1% of Republicans support his actions, 73% of Democrats and 32% of independents express favorable views. Some Republican leaders believe Walz’s tenure will ultimately be defined by these issues.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Walz’s office for a response regarding the matter.
