Josh Hart Backs Cam Schrittler for Cy Young Award

NBA champion Knicks guard Josh Hart is fully supporting the buzz around pitcher Cam Schrittler.

After a standout performance that highlighted the Yankees right-hander’s success at the Stadium on Friday night, Hart took to social media, declaring his belief that Schrittler deserves baseball’s top pitching award.

“Shritti is definitely a Cy Young Award winner,” Hart posted on X.

This endorsement came after the Yankees secured a 5-0 victory over the Reds, with Schrittler delivering an impressive six scoreless innings and setting a career high with 13 strikeouts.

Schrittler has been emerging as one of the most exciting breakout talents in baseball, showing fans a glimpse of his potential last year.

The 25-year-old has developed into one of the brightest young pitchers, starting this season with a league-leading 3.8 WAR and an AL-best 1.82 ERA, which recently dipped to 1.71 after his latest game.

Having pitched in the first 16 games of the season, he has completed 95 innings with 109 strikeouts, showcasing his impressive skills on the mound.

Hart’s endorsement coincides with a significant week for him. He celebrated the Knicks’ first NBA championship since 1973 with a massive ticker-tape parade through Manhattan that attracted millions.

The celebration climaxed with Hart and his teammates receiving the keys to the city from Mayor Zoran Mamdani, recognizing their historic playoff run.

A vital player during the championship season, Hart has consistently contributed since joining the Knicks via trade in the 2022-23 season.

Known for his rebounding, toughness, and versatility on both ends of the floor, he averaged 10.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in the playoffs. His all-around performance helped lead New York to a commanding run, ultimately winning the Finals against San Antonio.

The celebration tour continued this week, with Hart and Finals MVP Jalen Brunson throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium before the game against the White Sox. This moment received a massive cheer from Yankees fans, many of whom were likely still riding the high of the Knicks’ success.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are pushing for their 28th World Series championship, holding a 46-28 record in the AL East, sitting three games behind their competitors.
